My freshman year of college consisted of many days spent in my dorm room, doing work and....sleeping. I wasn't much of a social butterfly before college and that really didn't change throughout those years. I stayed in Pride Hall at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University (NCAT). Little did I know, my husband also stayed in the same dorm hall.
I made friends who I would go to the cafe with, hangout with in each other's rooms and make quick trips to find food off campus. There was one guy who I had not met but knew of through my friends. One day I was told that a guy named Clint really liked me and wanted to get to know me. Something really funny is that I knew of another guy named Clint, who I was somewhat attracted to, that stayed on the floor below me. The whole time my friends and I talked about "Clint", I thought we were talking about the guy downstairs, however it wasn't the same person.
Once I figured out which Clint liked me, I started to "talk" to him more often. Why do I put " " around the word talk? Well, since I wasn't very sociable, I took comfort in only texting or chatting online to him. I vividly remember being in the study lounge one evening, him sitting beside me, and us chatting over the computers instead of speaking to one another. Every now and then, I would let him take me to grab groceries since I did not have my car on campus. He was such a gentleman that he would help me get my luggage down to my parents' car each time they came to pick me up for the weekend. There are many stories I can tell about how much I avoided him.
Fast forward about 2 1/2 years, many of my personal experiences with friends and losses led me to give him a try. We were at my apartment one evening, something told me to let him know that I wanted to officially give us a try. Of course this couldn't be done without more silliness right? So we were listening to Lady Gaga - Bad Romance and I was not making eye contact with him after saying that I wanted to try. Either he was not understanding or he was in shock because he needed me to clarify what it was that I was saying. I did nothing but say "Rah rah ah-ah-ah!" with a smile. From that, he was able to understand. And so our story, together, began.
